Ingredients

  • 1/2 pound ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 10 ounce can of Rotel do not drain
  • 1 sheet puff pastry thawed
  • 1 cup Mexican blend cheese grated or shredded

Equipment

  • Blender
  • Skillet
  • Frying pan
  • Grater
  • Wooden Spoon
  • Oven
  • Chef's Knife
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Baking Sheet

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F. Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper or using a non-stick spray to prevent sticking.
  2. In a skillet over medium-high heat, add the ground beef. Use a spatula to break it apart as it cooks. Keep an eye on it until it turns a nice brown color and is no longer pink. Once cooked, drain any excess grease to keep your pinwheels from becoming soggy.
  3. After draining the beef, add in the minced garlic, chili powder, salt, pepper, cumin, onion powder, oregano, and paprika into the skillet. Mix everything well and let it simmer for about 3 to 4 minutes. This allows the spices to meld beautifully.
  4. Now it’s time to bring out the star of the show: your puff pastry. Unroll it on a flat surface and roll it out into a rectangle that’s approximately 18 inches long. This will be your canvas for all the tasty fillings!
  5. Take the cooked beef mixture and spread it evenly across the puff pastry, leaving a small border around the edges for easier rolling. It should look like a delicious beef blanket!
  6. Sprinkle the Mexican blend cheese evenly over the beef mixture, ensuring you cover it well. This will create a cheesy surprise in every bite.
  7. Starting at the edge closest to you, begin to roll the pastry tightly like you would for a cinnamon roll. As you roll, gently pinch the seam to seal it. Make sure it’s tightly rolled to avoid any filling leakage.
  8. Once you have a nice log, take a serrated knife and slice the roll into one-inch thick pieces. Wipe the knife between cuts with a damp paper towel to keep the edges clean and neat.
  9. Place the pinwheel slices on your prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between each one to allow for expansion. Pop the baking sheet into the preheated oven and bake for 10 to 12 minutes. Keep an eye on them until they turn golden brown.
  10. Once they’re perfectly baked, remove them from the oven and serve hot! You can top them with your favorite garnishes or dips for an extra flavor boost!

Notes

  • Keep it Cold: Make sure your puff pastry is cold before rolling. If it gets too warm, it can become sticky and hard to work with.
  • Use Quality Ingredients: Fresh spices and good quality cheese can make a significant difference in flavor.
  • Don’t Overcook: Be cautious when cooking the ground beef; overcooking can lead to dryness.
  • Watch Closely: Keep an eye on your pinwheels while they bake. Ovens can vary, and you want them golden, not burnt!
