Ingredients

  • 1 to 1 1/2 lbs boneless skinless chicken breasts cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 Tbsp arrowroot powder or cornstarch
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 2 Tbsp olive oil divided
  • 12 oz green beans trimmed
  • 1/4 cup green onions chopped
  • Sesame seeds optional garnish
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth
  • 3 Tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1/2 tsp grated ginger or 1/4 tsp ground ginger
  • 2 tsp arrowroot powder or cornstarch

Equipment

  • Large Pot
  • Skillet
  • Whisk
  • Grater
  • Saucepan
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Chef's Knife
  • Frying pan
  • Wooden Spoon

Method

  1. Start by cutting the chicken into 1-inch cubes. This helps the chicken cook evenly and ensures that every piece is coated in that delicious sauce. In a mixing bowl, combine 1 tablespoon of arrowroot powder, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Toss the chicken pieces in the mixture until they are lightly coated.
  2. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, drizzle 1 tablespoon of olive oil to coat the pan. Once the pan is hot, add the coated chicken pieces in an even layer. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper, then cook until they are lightly browned and cooked through, about 4 to 5 minutes. Make sure to stir the chicken as needed for even cooking. Once cooked, transfer the chicken to a plate and set aside.
  3. Add another tablespoon of olive oil into the hot skillet. Toss in the trimmed green beans and season with a bit of salt and pepper. Sauté the green beans for about 6 minutes until they begin to char slightly and become tender yet still crisp. You want to avoid floppy green beans, as they should retain a good bite!
  4. While the green beans cook, whisk together the chicken broth, soy sauce, honey, minced garlic, and grated ginger in a small bowl. This sauce is where the magic happens! In a separate bowl, whisk together 2 teaspoons of arrowroot powder (or cornstarch) with 2 teaspoons of water until smooth. Set both mixtures aside for later.
  5. Once the green beans are cooked, add the seared chicken back into the skillet. Pour the honey garlic sauce over the top, mixing everything well. Then, add in the arrowroot mixture to help thicken the sauce. Stir well to ensure that each piece is beautifully coated.
  6. Bring the sauce to a boil before reducing the heat. Let everything simmer for a few minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together and the sauce to thicken. You’ll know it’s ready when the sauce clings to the chicken and green beans perfectly.
  7. Finally, garnish the dish with sliced green onions and a sprinkle of sesame seeds for an extra touch. Serve the Honey Garlic Chicken Green Beans over a bed of rice for a complete meal.
  8. Enjoy every bite, knowing you’ve crafted a delightful dish that's sure to please!

Notes

Storage options include keeping leftovers in an airtight container for up to three days. Reheat gently. You can also freeze the dish for up to two months. A simple cucumber salad pairs beautifully with this dish. Optional ingredients like tofu can make it vegetarian-friendly.
