Ingredients

  • 4 pieces boneless, skinless chicken thighs cut into 1-inch cubes
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup cornstarch
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ cup ice cold water
  • enough for frying vegetable oil
  • optional fresh parsley
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp white sugar
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp honey

Equipment

  • Wooden Spoon
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Skillet

Method

  1. Add about 2 inches of vegetable oil to a large skillet and heat over medium-high heat.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the chicken, flour, cornstarch, baking soda, and ice-cold water. Mix well until the chicken is evenly coated.
  3. Carefully place the coated chicken pieces into the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the skillet. Fry for about 8 to 10 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  4. Once cooked, drain the fried chicken on paper towels to remove excess oil and keep warm.
  5. In a separate skillet, add the butter, white sugar, soy sauce, and honey. Heat over medium heat, stirring frequently until bubbly.
  6. Let the mixture bubble for about 1 minute before removing it from heat.
  7. Combine the fried chicken with the honey-butter mixture in a large bowl. Stir well to ensure each piece is evenly coated.
  8. Serve Honey Buttered Fried Chicken immediately and watch as everyone digs in with delight.

Notes

  • Tip 1: The ice-cold water in the batter should be very cold, even with ice cubes added. This ensures a light and airy batter.
  • Tip 2: Seasoning is a personal choice; this recipe is great on its own, but feel free to add seasoning if preferred.
