Ingredients

  • 2 crusts 29-inch pie crusts
  • 6 cups thinly sliced apples about 6 medium apples
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 large egg beaten (for egg wash)

Equipment

  • Oven
  • Chef's Knife
  • Baking Sheet
  • Mixing Bowl

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F. Line a 9-inch pie dish with one of the pie crusts.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the sliced apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice until the apples are well coated.
  3. Transfer the apple mixture into the pie crust-lined dish. Place the second pie crust over the filling, trim the excess, and crimp the edges to seal. Cut slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
  4. Brush the top crust with beaten egg. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Reduce the temperature to 350°F and continue baking for another 45 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
  5. Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack for at least 2 hours before serving.

Notes

  • Storage: How to store leftovers: Keep your pie covered at room temperature for up to two days. If you need to store it longer, refrigerate and consume within four days.
  • Freezing: Can you freeze this? Yes! Wrap slices tightly in plastic wrap and freeze for up to three months. To enjoy, let them thaw in the fridge and reheat in the oven.
  • Serving: Apple Pie pairs wonderfully with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. It makes for a delightful dessert any time of the year!
  • Variations: Feel free to add other spices like allspice or cloves for a unique twist on the traditional flavor. Experimentation is part of the fun!
  • Garnishes: For an elegant touch, consider drizzling caramel sauce over individual slices before serving. It adds a sweet richness that complements the pie beautifully.
